Ferdinand Kähler

Mechanical engineering, Life cycle assessment, Sustainability

Ferdinand joined nova-Institute in October 2020 as staff scientist, after supporting the team as a trainee since 2019.  With his background in mechanical engineering and sustainability sciences, he works in the field of life cycle assessments of bio-based chemicals and materials as well as chemical, energetic and mechanical processes, in addition to other sustainability assessment methodologies. In this context he is currently involved in various European projects on bio-based economy (Horizon 2020).

Background and expertise

Ferdinand finished his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University before obtaining an excellent master degree there. In his studies he focused on design engineering and thereby gaining insights in many different technologic fields as well as methodological skills for systematic solution development. After his engineering studies, he obtained a second master’s degree in Sustainability Sciences at Bochum University of Applied Sciences. Thereby, he acquired a broad understanding of various aspects of sustainability and gathered profound knowledge in the field of life cycle assessment.
