Technology & Markets, Industrial Biotechnology, Carbon Capture & Utilisation

Dr. rer. nat. Pia Skoczinski is responsible for industrial biotechnology, Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) and bio-based building blocks and polymers. Pia is nova’s conducting researcher for the national project BioCOnversion coordinated by CLIB2021 and is also involved in the EU funded project BioRECO2VER. Both projects are dealing with the conversion of syngas or CO2 to value added chemicals. In addition, she is mainly responsible for the annually updated market report on “Bio-based Building Blocks and Polymers – Global Capacities, Production and Trends”.

Background and expertise

Pia is trained as a biologist and joined nova in 2018. She has several years of research experience in the optimisation of microbial cell factories, enzyme engineering and enzyme-catalysed polymerisation. She has a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. from Heinrich Heine University, Institute of Molecular Enzyme Technology. After receiving her Ph.D. in Biology in 2016, she took a one-year postdoctoral research position at the University of Groningen in Macromolecular and Polymer chemistry.
